Architecture and history

After the settlement of colonists and the ensuing establishment of Friedrichsbrunn, the Stecklenberg bailiff Leberecht Fischer asked the Prussian king to build a chapel, as the new residents were very godly. In fact, a small half-timbered church was built in 1775. Church services were held up to eight times a year by the Neinstedter pastor Johann Tobias Blume. In 1796 the reported Suderoder pastor Johann Friedrich Wenzel from a dilapidated state of the church and turned for help to the King Friedrich Wilhelm II. Later, Pastor Bergmann pointed out that in the church in the winter snow ansammele, the melt again until the spring. The structural defects were due to the use of unsuitable wood and also affected other buildings by the colonists. Due to the Napoleonic wars, however, structural measures were initially not carried out and were only carried out after the end of the war. However, the structural condition remained critical, the small and poor community of Friedrichsbrunn had considerable problems with the use of the funds required for maintenance. The church tower was described as in danger of collapsing. Pastor Friedrich Heine complained about the dilapidation on May 25, 1830 and asked for a small organ as a gift of grace. The cladding of the altar and pulpit has been renewed over time. A hymn book was turned to the church by an unknown person. In addition, the church received an iron stove and a community library with 45 books was created. The churchyard was enclosed.

In 1878 the old dilapidated church was closed by the police and then demolished in 1879. The simply designed new church today was built in 1879/1880. The inauguration took place on September 16, 1880 by Superintendent Moeller. The church building, built as a hall church, shows elements of neo-Gothic in its design . The nave has a three-sided choir closure facing south-east. The facades are made of stone and structured by alternating granite surfaces and brick elements. It is the only granite church in the Eastern Harz .

Friedrichsbrunn was raised to an independent pastor's office. A church seal was also purchased for the church. In 1882 the parish acquired an organ from the parish of the Sankt-Katharinen-Kirche in Magdeburg . However, new structural problems soon arose. Dry rot was found on the north side and cracks formed. The church tower on the northwest side was added in 1896 under the direction of a Quedlinburg building council. The inauguration of the 33 meter high tower took place on November 5, 1896. The church also received a bell and a clock. The church square in front of the church was planted with trees.

The nave is spanned by a beamed ceiling and the choir is spanned by a ribbed vault. The windows of the choir are decorated with depictions of Christ, the Eye of God and the dove of the Holy Spirit. The furnishings in the interior of the church essentially go back to the construction time. The organ front and the organ gallery are designed in the neo-Gothic style. There are also classicist box stalls .

Cemetery chapel

In 1902 the morgue was built. In 1911 the organ was largely renewed by the organ builder Röver from Hausneindorf . During the First World War , the large church bell, the pipes of the organ weighing 40 kilograms and the lightning rods had to be given over to be melted down for armament purposes. After the end of the war, the church received electrical lighting. In 1925 she received a new bronze bell cast in Apolda .

In 1940 the organ was renewed again. During the Second World War , the church was damaged by shelling, but was repaired in 1951. During renovation work around 1970, the remains of the original paintings were whitewashed. At the same time, the altar and baptism were made from granite masonry.

The church was restored between 1992 and 1996. On November 8, 1996, the church was solemnly named Bonhoeffer Church after Dietrich Bonhoeffer . The Bonhoeffer family had a holiday home in Friedrichsbrunn , and Dietrich Bonhoeffer also stayed in the village repeatedly. In 2010 the rectory was sold. However, there is a community room at Hauptstraße 23 in Friedrichsbrunn.

In front of the west side of the church is the Friedrichsbrunn war memorial , which was built in 1924 and commemorates the fallen soldiers of the First World War .

In the local register of monuments , the church is registered as an architectural monument under registration number 094 21099 .
