action

Paula is 31, has just returned from Mexico and is trying to find a place to stay in Paris . She cannot go to her parents because her father has left the family and she too ran away from home as a teenager. The relationship with the mother is difficult. Paula once studied in Paris and met her teacher Joachim Deloche, a photographer whose muse she became. Now, however, he rejects her, as the attraction to see her become a woman has meanwhile vanished. Paula takes Joachim's Persian cat with her and leaves. She stayed with her friend Anne for a short time, but she quickly got annoyed by Paula's unreliability and threw her out of the door. Paula is staying in a hotel and moves her jewelry to pay for the room. She sporadically applies for jobs and tries to contact her mother, who, however, does not want to know anything about her.

When Paula doesn't know what to do next, she is approached in the subway by the young Yuki, who confuses her with her former classmate Sarah. Paula plays the game and is staying with her. When Yuki goes to Berlin for a job, Paula can stay in her apartment, but is successful in her job search: She hires a dancer as a nanny for her daughter Lila, even if Paula has no references. She is allowed to move into a former maid's room upstairs. Paula pretends to actually study art, but at the same time starts to work in a shopping center in a lingerie shop. Here she meets the security guard Ousmane. When Lila's mother becomes increasingly angry because Paula's qualities as a nanny leave a lot to be desired and she has also secretly brought the cat with her, Paula takes the cat up with Ousmane. Joachim Deloche is now calling Paula more and more often because he is worried and also wants his cat back.

When Paula becomes faint, she goes to the doctor and learns that she is pregnant. She cannot say exactly whether the child is wanted or an accident, but she wants to keep it. Lila's mother has advertised the nanny job again because she is dissatisfied with Paula. Paula meets Yuki again in a club and she finds out that Paula is not Sarah. Shortly afterwards Paula gains entry to her mother's house and a fight ensues, which both women end with a "ceasefire". Paula is crying. Joachim later finds her surprisingly in the shopping center and she tells him that he is pregnant. Later both of them go out to dinner and Joachim offers Paula to live with him and relax. He misses her, he says, but refuses because she no longer loves him and he is actually no longer in love with her either. The next time he visits Joachim, Paula has his cat with her. She explains to Joachim that she wants to abort the child, and he accuses her of wanting revenge on him. He becomes intrusive and she fends off him.

A little later Paula had the abortion carried out. She packs her things with Lila's mother to leave.
