Regine Bonke (* 1948 in Kiel ) is a German object artist . She is a representative of Concrete Constructivist art .

life and work

After graduating from high school in 1967, Bonke studied art education, art history and biology a. a. at the Muthesius Art College in Kiel and the Universities of Kiel and Tübingen . Since 1985 she has been living as a freelance artist near Lübeck. Strictly reduced objects and architecture- related installations form Bonke's main focus. Since 1990 these have been made of a material that is unusual in this context, namely hand-made paper. In addition, there are lead sheet and neon contours, and since 2003 also Plexiglas, Corten steel and other materials. In addition to her exhibition activities, she is increasingly realizing art in public spaces , such as B. 2001 the large sculpture in the Gothic castle monastery in Lübeck.

“Bonke focuses on the plastic installation and almost completely dispenses with other artistic media. A catharsis that not only leads to surprising results, but above all also forms the decisive basis for approaching the unequivocal and unbound, pure thinking that is expressed in the constellation of numbers and in geometry.
The huge “Blue Square” from 2001 shown in the inner courtyard of the Lübeck Castle Monastery may be of paradigmatic importance in this context. It shows a self-sufficient form, which was placed in such a way that it makes the existing architecture appear subordinate and overcomes everything physically heavy and burdensome in favor of a spherical remoteness, as if it were the manifestation of an idea that pervades reality, in relation between sensual appearance and its inner being. "

In 2001 Bonke was nominated for the Daniel Henry Kahnweiler Prize and in 2008 for the Schleswig-Holstein State Art Prize. In 2007 and 2010 she was the winner of the Gabriele Münter Prize . In recent years photography has also played an increasingly important role in the series of "Afterimages". The first virtual object was created in 2009. In February 2014, Regine Bonke was awarded the art prize of the BBK Schleswig-Holstein as part of the 60th state show in the state museum at Gottorf Castle .
