Richard Gaede

Richard Gaede (born October 8, 1857 in Greifswald , † July 18, 1933 in Hanover ) was a German classical philologist and high school teacher .

After attending grammar school in Greifswald, he studied classical philology and history at the universities of Bonn and Greifswald from 1875 . In 1880 he received his doctorate in Greifswald with Ulrich von Wilamowitz-Moellendorff with a thesis on Demetrios von Skeptisis . In 1881 he passed the teaching examination in Greifswald. After the probationary year at the grammar school in Elberfeld 1881–82, he was a teacher at the grammar school in Danzig from 1882 to 1901 . From January 1 to June 30, 1900, he traveled to Italy with a half- travel grant from the German Archaeological Institute for high school teachers. In 1901 he became director of the Progymnasium in Schwetz , in 1902 director of the grammar school in Strasburg in West Prussia , in 1907 director of the Schillergymnasium in Münster . He later became a high school supervisor in Gdansk and Hanover.

His son William Gaede (1891–1966) studied German and emigrated to the USA in 1933.
