carry-on baggage

Under hand baggage refers to items of luggage that passengers in a flight in the cabin carry.
No dangerous objects - especially weapons - may be carried in hand luggage . Infringements are punished on German soil according to the Aviation Security Act with imprisonment of up to two years or a fine. The hand baggage is checked at the entrance to the gate in the security control in the presence of the passenger, while the main baggage is checked in his absence.
In most countries (including the European Union and the USA) liquids in hand luggage may only be transported in containers with a maximum volume of 100 ml. In addition, these liquid containers (maximum 100 ml per container) must be stowed in a transparent and resealable bag, which must be shown separately at the security check. Personal medication and baby food are an exception.
For take-off and landing , hand luggage must either be stowed in the luggage racks above the seats or under the seat in front, with bottles and heavier items of luggage only being placed under the seat in front to protect passengers from falling.
In special rows of seats (e.g. at the emergency exit ), special rules apply to stowing hand luggage: All hand luggage must be stowed in the upper luggage racks. In the rows directly at one of the emergency exits (e.g. at an emergency exit window), there must also be no objects in the seat pockets for take-off and landing. The safety instructions do not count as they are part of the necessary emergency equipment. There may be compartments in the upper shelves in which luggage is also not permitted. This applies, for example, to the compartments that contain parts of the emergency equipment that must be readily available in an emergency. These subjects are marked accordingly.
Under baggage allowance is the mass (weight) that a passenger according to his airline ticket can be transported. As a rule, only checked luggage is weighed; hand luggage is (if at all) limited separately (e.g. to 10 kg).
In the case of smaller commercial aircraft with little space in the cabin (e.g. CRJ900 or De Havilland DHC-8-400 ), the delivery-at-aircraft method is used for larger items of hand luggage, i.e. they are brought into the aircraft immediately before boarding the aircraft Load hold.
Restrictions
As a rule, hand luggage is limited to one piece of luggage per passenger and is also subject to certain weight and size limits: The IATA recommends a total of length, width and height of 115 cm. However, a maximum size of 56 cm × 45 cm × 25 cm (IATA recommendation) or 55 cm × 40 cm × 20 cm is common.
Since there is no mandatory standardization with regard to hand baggage regulations, the individual airlines have their own hand baggage regulations (see table below). In 2015, the IATA attempted to introduce a uniform size for hand luggage by introducing the “IATA Cabin OK” logo. The hand luggage should therefore have a maximum size of 55 × 35 × 20 cm. Some major airlines, such as Air China, Avianca, Azul, Cathay Pacific, China Southern, Emirates, Lufthansa and Qatar Airways, initially wanted to introduce these new sizing rules. However, the proposal to introduce new size restrictions was heavily criticized, as a result of which IATA suspended the “Cabin OK” initiative for the time being.
Most airlines have a maximum weight between 5 kg and 12 kg. The hand luggage regulations not only vary between airlines, but often also depend on the aircraft used. The booking class can also have an impact on this: In the cheapest class, only one piece of hand luggage is usually allowed, but two pieces of hand luggage are allowed in the higher classes. There are also restrictions on the number of pieces of baggage that can be carried on board.
