The Borgward BX5 is an SUV that the Chinese car manufacturer Beiqi Foton Motor has been selling under the Borgward brand since 2017.
Model history
The vehicle's world premiere took place at the 86th Geneva Motor Show (2016). Like the larger BX7 , the BX5 will initially be produced for the Chinese market at Foton's Miyun plant near Beijing. The market launch there took place on March 24, 2017. The crossover SUV BX6 is based on the BX5.
Like the Huansu S5 , the BX5 is based on the X55 launched by the Chinese sub-brand Beijing Senova in 2016 .
Drive and technology
In China, when the five-seater was launched, it was powered by a supercharged 1.8-liter gasoline engine with direct fuel injection with a maximum output of 140 kW (190 hp) . As standard, the BX5 has a six-step automatic transmission and front-wheel drive , optional is all-wheel drive available. This was later followed by a 1.4-liter petrol engine with front-wheel drive with a maximum output of 110 kW (150 hp) and the two-liter petrol engine with a maximum output of 165 kW (224 hp) with all-wheel drive from the BX7. Both of the following engines are equipped with a turbocharger and direct fuel injection. In Germany, the BX5 is to be sold with an electric motor , contrary to what was initially planned .
safety
In the crash tests carried out by C-NCAP in 2016 , the vehicle received an overall rating of five stars and a total of 57,300 points.
Awards
Like the larger BX7, the BX5 and BX6 TS received the “ German Design Award ” in 2016 .
