Boris Andreevich Ostroumov

Boris Andrejewitsch Ostroumow ( Russian Борис Андреевич Остроумов ; * 1887 in Yaroslavl ; † 1979 ) was a Russian physicist and university professor .

Life

Ostroumow studied at the physical - mathematical faculty of the University of St. Petersburg with a degree in 1912. In 1913 he completed a pedagogy course at the St. Petersburg Science District. He then taught at the secondary school in Kazan (until 1917).

After the October Revolution in 1918 Ostroumov worked in the Nizhny Novgorod Lenin Radio Laboratory (NRL), which had just been founded with Lenin's Ukas . 1919–1924 he taught at the Kazan University and at the Kazan Pedagogical Institute . In 1924 he moved to Nizhny Novgorod University and worked as a scientific specialist in the NRL. In 1928 the NRL was transferred to the Leningrad Central Radio Laboratory (ZRL), so that Ostroumow became an employee of the ZRL in 1929. The focus of his work were the electron tubes , whose construction and application possibilities he improved. Under his scientific direction, Oleg Vladimirovich Lossew became a pioneer in semiconductor technology .

In 1933 Ostroumow became group leader at the Institute for Optics (GOI) . In 1934 he became a professor and in 1937 a candidate for physical-mathematical sciences . His main focus was optoelectronics . He improved the design and measurement method of the spectrometer .
