Boris Morros

Boris Michailowitsch Morros ( Russian Борис Михайлович Морроз; born January 1, 1891 in Saint Petersburg , Russian Empire ; † January 8, 1963 in New York City , New York ) was a Russian , later American film producer , film composer and musical director.

Life

Boris Morros worked in numerous film productions as musical director in the 1930s and 1940s, often also as a composer. In 1936, the musical director was the film The Jungle Princess (The Jungle Princess) in his hands. For Cecil B. DeMille's film The Buccaneer of Louisiana (1938) he was responsible for the music together with George Antheil . He also contributed the music for Henry Hathaway's film Pirates in Alaska together with Dimitri Tiomkin , Frank Loesser and Burton Lane .

Occasionally he also worked as a producer. One of the best known of the many Hollywood productions for which he worked is the classic of the western genre Ringo (Stagecoach) by director John Ford . Here Morros was the musical director. His colleagues Richard Hageman , William Franke Harling , John Leipold and Leo Shuken were awarded an Oscar for editing the film music .

Morros served as both a KGB agent and an FBI informant.
