Scarborough is an administrative district with borough status in North Yorkshire in England . The administrative center is the city of the same name, Scarborough , in which almost half the population lives. Other important places are Filey and Whitby .

The district was formed on April 1, 1974 and was the result of the merger of various local authorities. From the East Riding of Yorkshire these were the Urban District Filey and part of the Rural District Bridlington, from the North Riding of Yorkshire the Municipal Borough Scarborough, the Urban Districts Scalby and Whitby and the Rural Districts Scarborough and Whitby.

Partnerships

From 1988 to 2016 there was a district partnership with the district of Osterode am Harz in Lower Saxony. In 2016 the district of Osterode am Harz merged with the old district of Göttingen to form the new district of Göttingen , the latter has been partnering with Scarborough since then.
