Boron trifluoride diethyl etherate is a complex compound (Lewis acid-base adduct), consisting of diethyl ether (Lewis base, electron pair donor) and boron trifluoride (46%) (Lewis acid, electron pair acceptor). The yellow, pungent smelling liquid smokes in air as a result of hydrolysis, is highly flammable and corrosive.
Extraction and presentation
Boron trifluoride diethyl etherate can be obtained by gas phase reaction between BF 3 and anhydrous diethyl ether .
use
Boron trifluoride diethyl etherate is used in Friedel-Crafts acylations and alkylations .
Boron trifluoride diethyl etherate is used as a depolymerization reagent for the depolymerization of polysiloxanes ( silicones ). In this process, monomers are generated from the polymers , which can be reassembled into polymers in a subsequent polymerisation so that polysiloxanes can be recycled ( chemical recycling ).
