To the east is the Bottschlotter Lake , which is used for ice skating in winter and as a training area for windsurfers in summer .

history

After decades of work on the Bottschlotter plant , a major project by the Dukes of Schleswig to dike the Dagebüller Bay, was largely destroyed by the Burchardi flood in 1634 , the Bottschlotter Koog was diked in 1641. It is named after the low of the same name.

The dike had been carried out since 1625 by Dutch Catholics who were based in Friedrichstadt . As partners, they financed the construction of the dike and hoped for the privilege of religious freedom , similar to the one in Glückstadt and Friedrichstadt. They received support from the " Propaganda Congregation " of the Vatican and the Jesuit order . In fact, after 1633 a Catholic church was built on the Mariendeich, later called Holländerdeich, which could accommodate 200 people. However, it was closed in 1640 by order of the Danish king and later demolished. Due to considerable difficulties in securing and enlarging the Koog, the participants finally gave up, in 1647 left their lands to the Duke of Gottorf for compensation and withdrew to Friedrichstadt.

In 1952 a pumping station was built in Bottschlotter Koog so that the Koog was no longer flooded.

present

Today in Bottschlotter Koog there is the Bottschlotter Weg, Finstersweg and Ebesweg, on which there are nine properties that are mostly used by agricultural businesses. The Koog has 27 inhabitants: 10 children and 17 adults.
