The Boumba (also Bumba or Wumo in the upper reaches ) is a river in the South Cameroonian plateau in southeast Cameroon .
course
The river has its sources, just like the Nyong , in a dense network of rivers about 30 kilometers east of the city of Abong-Mbang in a swamp area in the rainforest. It has only a very slight gradient in the upper reaches and is therefore navigable for smaller ships. In the lower reaches, however, it is rich in rapids. Boumba and Dja converge near Moloundou and become the Ngoko .
Hydrometry
The flow rate of the river in Biwala was measured in m³ / s
ecology
The river touches the Boumba Bek National Park , which is located between the Boumba and the Bek . The forested area around the river is a complex ecosystem. The area is the settlement area of the Baka . Communities live from hunting and agriculture. Poaching and ivory smuggling are common in the area.
additional
- The river is mentioned in the text of the Cameroonian national anthem .
- The area may be the source of HIV .
- The legendary, mystical Mokele-Mbembe is said to have been sighted in the river in 2000.
