A bourgeois ( French bourgeois 'citizen [in]', to bourg 'castle') is a member of the bourgeoisie ('bourgeoisie').
The outdated adjective bourgeois (French bourgeois) means “bourgeois”. The term was and is also used as a battle term.
In the French language, the term bourgeois for the citizen is clearly differentiated from the term citoyen , which can also be translated as "citizen".
