Bov Kirke

The Bov Kirke is a centuries-old church of the Evangelical Lutheran Danish Church in Bov ( German  construction ) not far from the German-Danish border near Flensburg .

Building history

When exactly the church in Bov was founded is unknown. The Romanesque nave and the Romanesque choir represent the oldest part of the white plastered church building, which lies in the middle of a small cemetery surrounded by field stone walls. The nave has a flat beamed ceiling, while the choir has a Gothic vault. The apse was demolished in 1668. In the same year the nave was lengthened three meters to the west. Remains of medieval frescoes have been preserved in the nave .

In 1817 a vestibule, a so-called armory , was added to this building on the south side . For this, the columns and the curved stones were transferred here from the medieval woman's door on the north side of the church. During the renovation in 1890, the nave was raised by 70 cm. On the south side, the tiny medieval windows were enlarged, while on the north wall they remained in their original size.

Originally the church only had one bell stack . In 1905 the church received its steeple. The plans for this west tower came from the architect C. Voss from Kiel .

Since the referendum in Schleswig in 1920 , the village of Fröslee, which was previously a parish of the Handewitt parish, belongs to Bov.

The address of the church in the center of Bov is today: “Bov Kirke; Kirkevej 3, Bov; 6330 Padborg ". The pastorate is located directly to the east of the cemetery at Kirkevej 1 . The whitewashed, single-storey building with a thatched roof dates from 1766. The pastor also takes care of the Kollund church, which was built in 1971 .

inventory

The oldest piece of furniture is a representation of the baptism of Jesus carved from an oak trunk , which is dated to around 1250.

The church has two baptismal fonts. The granite font comes from the Middle Ages . The lid made in 1626 was lost after the font was replaced by a baroque font in 1715. The old font has been used again since 1880. In 1949 he received a new brass font, which is placed on the font and is used today.

The gallery pulpit comes from Heinrich Ringerink's carving workshop in Flensburg and was created in 1626. The six sides show the fall of man , the Annunciation , the birth of Christ , the crucifixion , the resurrection and the ascension in reliefs . The altar from 1771 is the work of the Flensburg carver Fr. Windekilde in rococo style . It was purchased after the previous altar structure, which had carried a representation of the Last Supper, was burned by an accident with the altar lights.

On the north wall of the choir there is a built-in cupboard from 1745 for the storage of the church records.

The gallery in the nave was drawn in in 1705. Its balustrade is decorated with scenes from the story of Joseph .

Two boards with the names of the pastors since the Reformation hang in the armory .
