Urban district Töss (District 4)
Map of the quarter

Schlosstal is a quarter of the city of Winterthur . Together with the Dättnau , Rossberg and Eichliacker quarters, the Schlosstal district is part of District 4 ( Töss ).

geography

The “Schlosstal” quarter is the part of the Töss quarter north of Zürcherstrasse . It stretches towards the northeast into the castle valley. This is also the geographical name of the entire valley, which also includes parts of the Oberfeld district of Wülfingen , to whose area the district in the northwest is directly connected. The castle valley is bordered to the southwest by the Ebnet and the Schlossberg, on which the today's eponymous ruin Alt-Wülflingen stands. Along the wooded Ebnet, the district shares a common border with the districts of Dättnau and Neuburg . In the northeast, the Brühlberg district , which is part of the Stadt district and built on a hillside, and the Brüelberg itself form the border of the district. The Eichliacker quarter is on the other side of Zürcherstrasse in the south-east .

The Töss flows through the castle valley . The Winterthur – Bülach railway and the A1 motorway run through the valley , with the Töss train station and the motorway connection outside the district. The quarter itself can be divided into the Chrugeler area between Zürcherstrasse and Töss, the Nägelsee on the other side of the Töss and the part of the quarter on the northeast side of Schlosstalstrasse, which was built on the slope of the Brüelberg.

education

In the quarter there are two kindergartens in Emil-Klötli and Schlosstalstrasse. There is the Rebwiesen schoolhouse for primary school. The children can attend secondary school in the Rosenau schoolhouse in the Eichliacker quarter. Secondary and higher schools are located in the city center.

The Swiss Technical College is located just outside the quarter in the north-west .

history

The earliest archaeological evidence in the neighborhood and at the same time one of the oldest evidence in the area of the former municipality of Töss is an infant grave from the 1st / 2nd centuries. Century in the area of the Nägelsee.

In the early Middle Ages, the village of Töss was a street village built purely on the western side of today's Zürcherstrasse. In the 13th century, the part of the quarter, now known as Chrugeler, was built over towards the river Töss for the first time.

The development of the Nägelsee as a workers' quarter began at the beginning of the 20th century, after the community cemetery was moved there in 1899. In 1914 the Catholic Church St. Josef (Winterthur-Töss) , dedicated to the patron saint of workers ( Josef von Nazaret ), was inaugurated there, but at that time it was still a department of the Church of St. Peter and Paul . In 1939 a slaughterhouse was opened in the Nägelsee. The quarter was also badly affected by the construction of the A1 in the 1960s, which had to give way to several residential buildings and the Nägelsee sports field used by FC Töss .

In 1980, the Rebwiesen school building, the third primary school in Töss, was opened in the Schlosstal. From 1982 the bus line 8 (Lindenplatz – Eichliacker) was the first bus line along the Schlosstalstrasse, at that time still as a tangential connection. This was extended to Dättnau five years later. In 1995, a direct connection to the main train station via Schlosstalstrasse was opened with bus line 7 and since line 8 was discontinued in December 2008, it has been the only bus route through the Schlosstal valley.

Transport links

The district is served by public transport on the one hand by bus line 7 (HB-Bahnhof Wülflingen) along Schlosstalstrasse and, on the other hand, bus line 1 ( Oberwinterthur -HB-Töss), 5 stops along Zürcherstrasse at the Zentrum Töss stop, which is mainly relevant for the district (Dättnau – HB– Technorama ), 11 (HB – Steig) and 660 (HB– Brütten - Nürensdorf - Bassersdorf ). On the weekends, the quarter has the night bus routes N59 (HB-Bhf. Wülflingen) and N66 (Winterthur-Brütten-Nürensdorf-Bassersdorf-Tagelswangen-Kemptthal), which run at different times, every half an hour.

Users of private transport can quickly get to the A1 or the city center via Zürcherstrasse in the south via the nearby Winterthur-Töss junction . The Schlosstalstrasse also connects the district with the Wülflingen district.

Culture and leisure

There is a leisure facility in the Nägelsee, and the two neighborhood associations that operate in the area also offer various leisure activities. The Gaswerk cultural center , where concerts take place regularly, is also located on the eastern edge of the quarter . On Sundays, a film is shown in the local sofa cinema niche.

The surrounding forests and the banks of the Töss, which flows through the district, are ideal for walks.
