Map of the quarter

Eichliacker is a district of the city of Winterthur . Together with the quarters of Dättnau , Rossberg and Schlosstal , the Eichliacker district is part of District 4 ( Töss ).

geography

"Eichliacker" referred to the arable land east of the village of Töss towards the Winterthur-Zurich railway line , which until the village grew as a result of the industrial boom along the Zürcherstrasse - today, Eichliacker is generally used to refer to the area south of the Töss train station to the secondary school Rosenau, the official neighborhood area itself is larger.

The Zürcherstrasse forms the western border to the Schlosstal quarter. To the north lies the district for the city belonging Tössfeld , the border line here corresponds to the original city limits and runs right through the quarter. The border to the district of Heiligberg in the east runs along the railway line and the Töss to the mouth of the Kempt , where the district also borders the Rossberg district for a length of 150 meters along the Kempt. The border then runs north again along the A1 motorway , from here the neighborhood borders on Dättnau. After the Winterthur-Töss motorway exit, the border runs along the eastern boundary of Dättnau and in the forest area in Ebnet . This is where the Schlosstals district begins again, and when the Zürcherstrasse is crossed over the motorway, the border runs along Zürcherstrasse again.

education

With the Auwiesen Kindergarten in the south and the Strittacker Kindergarten in the center, there are two facilities for preschoolers in the neighborhood. The Eichliacker primary school is located next to the Strittacker kindergarten , and the two primary schools Gutenberg and Zelgli are north of the railway line. Also in the quarter is the Rosenau, the only secondary school in the district.

history

Until the middle of the 19th century, the village of Töss mainly consisted of residential buildings along the Zürcherstrasse, which crossed the village, and a few buildings that were not directly on the street. Only then were the first streets built behind the main road; So the Reformed Church Töss , which is not located directly on Zürcherstrasse, was not built until 1852. The Winterthur-Töss train station across the quarter on the Winterthur – Koblenz railway , which was originally supposed to lead to Basel , was opened in 1875. Based on the train station, the development of the neighborhood can be divided into two stages. While the area north of the railway line had already been completely built over by the turn of the century, the area south of the station only began to be developed afterwards.

In the area south of the train station, which is popularly known today as Eichliacker, the centrally located Eichliacker school building was opened in 1902 as the center of the newly emerging village. This development was favored by the labor demand of the growing Rieter machine factory , which had bought the buildings of the former Töss monastery in the south of the district in 1833 as a factory area, as well as by the nearby workplaces of SLM and Sulzer in the Winterthur city area. The Society for the Construction of Cheap Housing was also involved in the construction of many houses south of the railway line . A few years after the municipality of Töss was incorporated into Winterthur (1922), the former field was completely built over in 1930, south of the railway line to Strittackerstrasse.

The development south of Strittackerstrasse should then continue a little more leisurely. In 1963 the high school in Rosenau was built, and in 1970 the Auwiesen swimming pool opened. Most of the residential complexes south of Auwiesenstrasse in the south of the quarter were built around and after the turn of the millennium.

Transport links

The Winterthur-Töss train station, where the S41 (Winterthur - Bülach - Zurzach - Waldshut ) line of the Zurich S-Bahn stops, is located across the quarter . On weekends, the station is served by the Winterthur – Bülach night-time S-Bahn.

Stadtbus Winterthur ensures public transport on the road : trolleybus line 1 ( Oberwinterthur –HB – Töss) runs along Zürcherstrasse , and the southern part of the district is served by bus line 5 (Dättnau – HB– Technorama ), which goes to the terminus of the Trolleybus line also serves the southern part of the quarter along Rosenaustrasse and Auwiesenstrasse. Bus lines 11 (HB – Steig) and 660 (HB – Brütten - Nürensdorf - Bassersdorf ) also run even more irregularly along Zürcherstrasse, but the latter only stops at the “Zentrum Töss” bus station as a regional line. On the weekends, the N 66 night bus (Winterthur – Brütten – Nürensdorf – Bassersdorf– Tagelswangen – Kemptthal) serves the district out of town, but only stops everywhere except at the “Zentrum Töss” bus station. From 1982 the then bus line 8 ran from Lindenplatz in Wülflingen to the “Eichliacker” terminus, until the line was brought to Dättnau five years later.

In the south of the quarter there is the connection between Winterthur-Töss and the A1 along Zürcherstrasse .
