The pit stop route is a long- distance cycle path that runs around 300 kilometers as a circular route through the Oldenburger Münsterland in the state of Lower Saxony . The long-distance cycle path runs through the districts of Cloppenburg and Vechta . The pit stop route for cyclists leads through flat terrain on almost exclusively low-traffic country roads, which are mostly paved. The car route of the same name runs parallel to the route for cyclists, on which the same tourist stations can be reached.

History of origin

The cycle route was designed in 2004. The pit stop route was implemented in close cooperation with the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Urlaub und Freizeit auf dem Lande eV, the institution for farm holidays in Lower Saxony. 120 predominantly agricultural businesses offer a diverse range of farm shops, farm stays, cottage gardens, restaurants and stations that are attractive in terms of landscape and culture. In terms of landscape, the moor and geest landscapes , rivers and canals, meadows, forests, the Dammer Mountains , the Dümmer See and the Thülsfelder Dam are particularly interesting. The “pit stop route”, officially recognized as a tourist route, links these offers.

The pit stop route was funded by the European Union for the development of agriculture and rural areas as part of the PROLAND program.

Recreation areas

Crossing of two centuries-old long-distance routes: Reuterweg (from left to right) and Pickerweg (along the asphalt pit stop route from front to back) near Visbek

The pit stop route leads through five recreational areas to which the municipalities and cities in the districts of Cloppenburg and Vechta have come together: The recreation areas Barßel - Saterland , Thülsfelder Talsperre and Hasetal in the district of Cloppenburg and the recreation areas of the northern district of Vechta and Dammer Berge in the district of Vechta.

Actions

In the summers of 2006 and 2007, the Ährensache campaign was carried out. Members of the rural people's associations, youth organizations, clubs, but also individual families erected sculptures made of hay and / or (straw) dolls in suitable places, often at the entrance to the town . These thematized in z. T. humorous manner scenes of work in rural living environment.
