Analog sound level meter
Frequency generator
Data logger
  • 1940s - Precision measuring devices, including RF spectrum analyzers and Geiger counters . The first measuring device that Brüel & Kjær built was the type 2401 tube voltmeter . Success began with the type 2301, which was built in 1949. The device has been revised several times since then. The latest version, Type 2307, was introduced in 1972. In 1943, Brüel & Kjær launched the 4301, the world's first acceleration sensor of the charge type, and thus entered the field of vibration measurement technology .
  • 1950s - sound and vibration measurement, u. a. Development of logarithmic level recorders , signal generators and frequency analyzers.
  • 1960s - measuring microphones, preamplifiers and calibrators, as well as sound level measuring devices according to the IEC standard.
  • 1970s - Parallel analyzers, including the world's first analyzer with digital filters.
  • 1980s - The first commercially available instrument for measuring sound intensities . Extension of the measuring range of the devices. A two-channel FFT analyzer.
  • 1990s - multi-channel systems, including devices for acoustic holography .
  • 2000s - surface microphones and new technologies such as TEDS, Dyn-X, REq-X, LAN-XI.

Organizational development

In 1992, Brüel & Kjær was sold to the German holding company AGV and split into a number of individual companies:

  • Brüel & Kjær Sound and Vibration Measurement A / S (The core business with sound and vibration measurement technology)
  • Brüel & Kjær Vibro (condition monitoring of machines)
  • BK Medical (Medical Ultrasound Diagnostic Equipment)
  • Innova Air Tech Instruments A / S (gas analysis instruments)
  • Danish Pro Audio (studio microphones)

After the company split, some of the former employees founded GRAS Sound and Vibration. AGIV built up the Spectris department, which includes Brüel & Kjær, Hottinger Baldwin Messtechnik GmbH (HBM), and BTG Instruments GmbH. In July 2000 the Spectris division was transferred to the British Fairey Group Ltd. sold. In May 2001, the Fairey Group changed its name to Spectris Plc.

In early 2009, Brüel & Kjær acquired LDS Test & Measurement and the Australian Lochard Ltd.
