Bramley is a western borough of Leeds , West Yorkshire , England in the Leeds West parliamentary constituency. It is an old industrial town with numerous buildings from the 19th century, council housing from the 20th century in the east and private residences in the west.

history

The Domesday Book of 1086 mentions Bramley as Brameleia and Bramelie .

In the 1960s and 1970s, large parts of Bramley underwent urban renewal . The old city center has been through the mall Bramley Shopping Center replaced, according to the Center of Seacroft the second earmarked built center of a suburb in Leeds. In contrast to Seacroft, however, an existing town center was replaced here, the houses and shops of which were in poor condition and no longer met modern standards. However, this transformation is controversial as a "once picturesque area" and a historically grown city center in Yorkshire have been demolished and built over. After the condition of the shopping center had temporarily deteriorated, new anchor tenants such as Farmfoods and Tesco were acquired from 2008 .

Bramley Town Conservation Area, an area between Bramley Park and Hough Lane, serves to preserve and protect large parts of the remaining historic buildings, including the narrow streets known as ginnels .
