The Bramstaller or Schafkopf ( 2559  m slm ) is a mountain in the Rieserferner group in South Tyrol .

Location and surroundings

The Bramstaller is located in the western part of the Rieserferner Group and is part of the Rieserferner-Ahrn Nature Park . It represents a corner point in the south ridge of the Großer Windschar ( 3041  m ), a little less than two kilometers away , from which it is separated by the Winterstallscharte ( 2472  m ). In the south and east, the Bramstaller mountain is framed by the upper Mühlbachtal , which branches off from the Tauferer Tal near Gais to the northeast and whose main town, Mühlbach, usually serves as the starting point for an ascent.

Alpinism

The Bramstaller is accessible with marked hiking trails. Starting from the Mühlbachtal, the summit can be reached on two different routes, which makes it easy to cross the summit. On the one hand, one reaches the valley northwest of the summit via the Winterstaller Alm, which leads from the west to the Winterstallscharte. You can also use this to get to the summit, but the marked path does not lead to the saddle, but turns south, where you reach the southwest ridge of the Bramstaller and reach the summit without difficulty. Alternatively, you can get from the Oberwanger Alm (also Heißalm, 2073  m ) further up in the Mühlbachtal towards the west to the Winterstallscharte and via the short north ridge to the summit. This route also presents no major difficulties. The total walking time from the parking lot at the beginning of the Mühlbacher Tal ( 1550  m ) is about 4½ hours.

The ascent of the Bramstaller via the Oberwanger Alm and Winterstallscharte is also possible as part of a moderately difficult ski tour, the time required for the ascent is around 3½ hours.
