The Brauneck summit house is an alpine club hut of the Alpine Ski Club Munich section of the German Alpine Club . It is located on the Brauneck west of Lenggries in the Bavarian Prealps at an altitude of 1540 m above sea level. NN in the area of the municipality of Lenggries and forms its part of the municipality Brauneckhütte .
history
The first decision to build a hut on the Brauneck for winter tourers was taken in 1920 at the general meeting of the Alpine Ski Club eV (ASC). The land required for this was purchased the following year. However, the inflation of 1923 devalued the sum of money of 5,000 gold marks that had been saved up until then , so that the project was not started until 1929. After the hut had been built between July and September 1930, the inauguration took place on June 21, 1931. At the beginning there was space for 35 day and 14 overnight guests. The dining area was expanded to 130 seats in 1933. A further expansion to 70 beds and 180 seats took place in 1937.
During the Second World War , the Brauneck house was requisitioned to accommodate soldiers who were used as aerial observers on the summit.
After the war, the number of visitors initially increased. There were between 6,000 and 8,000 overnight stays per year. In the early 1950s, however, the number of visitors collapsed due to increasing long-distance traffic. The majority of mountain hikers at the time turned to peaks that were accessible by cable cars. The construction of the Brauneck mountain railway changed little, as it was mainly used by skiers who immediately returned to the valley from the mountain station. In the 1960s there were attempts on the part of the Brauneck mountain railway to buy the house and convert it into a restaurant. However, this offer was rejected.
From 1996 the house was gradually renovated. Particular emphasis was placed on the environmentally friendly energy supply and modern sanitary facilities.
