Braunsroda is a district of the city and rural community An der Schmücke and is in the Kyffhäuserkreis in Thuringia . The place is about one kilometer northeast of Heldrungen.

history

Braunsroda was first mentioned on December 18, 1231 in connection with his membership of the Order of Lazarus . According to this document, the Lords of Heldrungen donated the St. Cyriacikapelle zu Braunsroda to the order. Due to the strong development of the order in Thuringia, a commandery was founded in the 14th century . After the Reformation, the last representatives of the order left the Comthurhof.

Since the 17th century, the place in the office of Heldrungen was continuously owned by the von Trebra family . The manor house was built in 1722 and a new chapel was solemnly consecrated there on November 22nd, 1736. In the early 1920s, the last major renovations and new constructions of the farm buildings took place before the Second World War.

After the Red Army marched into Thuringia, the von Trebra family were expropriated without compensation and were expelled. The GDR administration determined the conversion of the farm into a state-owned property (VEG). The chapel still in a side wing of the manor house, which had been used for worship by the estate and village residents, has been removed. After the fall of the Berlin Wall , the state-owned estate was closed. Georg von Bismarck , a grandson of the previous owner Hans von Trebra , leased the property from the Treuhandanstalt in 1992 . After years of efforts, the family was able to buy back the estate and part of the acreage in 1998. Today the renovated manor house also houses holiday apartments and a restaurant. The farm has also switched to organic farming and cultivates around 230 hectares of arable land.
