The Breite Berg is now a partially wooded mountain with two peaks and belongs partly to the Falken district in the urban area of Treffurt and to the municipality of Frankenroda in the northwestern part of the Wartburg district in Thuringia . It is part of the Eichsfeld-Hainich-Werratal Nature Park . The mountain plateau has a summit height of 323.2 m above sea level at the higher northwest tip of Fischersberg . NHN and was extensively cleared in the Middle Ages, field terraces and vaulted bakers can still be seen in the forest. Numerous boundary stones mark the enclave of the former provost of Zella , which was given this section of the valley for cultivation since the High Middle Ages.
The south-west summit of Mönchsberg ( ⊙ 318.7 m above sea level ) offers a small observation tower with a panoramic view of northern Hainich with Haineck Castle .
To the west, the Breite Berg merges into the wax wood covered with beech forest . A rugged edge with up to 40 m high limestone cliffs on the steep slope lines the edge of the valley to the west of the Treffurt city forest. Hidden in the rocks are several, mostly nameless crevices and caves, which are important as roosts for bats. The mountain slope that ends after Probsteizella is used for agriculture (arable and pasture areas).
