The Breitfeldgraben is a creek almost one kilometer long in the area of the small town Vellberg in the district of Schwäbisch Hall in northern Baden-Württemberg , which, after a fairly straight eastern course, flows from the left into the Aalenbach near the Sonnenhof farm .

geography

course

The Breitfeldgraben is being built on the east side of the Crailsheim – Heilbronn railway line on the border of the district boundaries of Großaltdorf in the north and Vellberg in the south, where the commercial area to the north of the former Vellberg train station borders on the right. There begins at about 383  m above sea level. NHN is a ditch that runs eastward along the boundary of the district, which at first shows only sporadic vegetation on the bank and then runs into a small woodland along a shipping hall in the south until it crosses the L 1040 Großaltdorf– Talheim after about 300 meters .

On the other side of the road, it runs further east between fields with again only sporadic vegetation, briefly also along the access road of the Sonnenhof, which then borders the bank on the left and around which trees planted as wind protection around this Aussiedlerhof stand in closer succession on the bank. In the last hundred meters or so of its course, the Breitfeldgraben crosses the meadow next to the small river between almost bare banks and then flows out at about 366  m above sea level. NHN from the right into the Aalenbach , which changes from its middle to the lower section of the river.

The Breitfeldgraben is about 0.9 km long, falls on its way by about 17 meters and thus has a mean bed gradient of about 19 ‰. It has no open tributaries.

Catchment area

The Breitfeldgraben has a catchment area of around 0.5 km². In terms of natural space , it is located in the Vellberger Bay sub-area of the Hohenlohe and Haller Plains . It extends from the peaks of the Gipskeuper-Höcker Almersberg (a little over 405  m above sea level ) in the west and Äulesberg ( 432.8  m above sea level ) in the west-southwest, about 1.4 km east to the mouth and across it is a maximum of about 0.5 km wide.

In the north, the catchment area borders a nameless smaller ditch directly above the Aalenbach . In the area beyond the northwest, western and southwestern watershed, which is more pronounced due to the two elevations there, smaller and nameless sloping streams and channels flow from above the Binsenwiesenbach up to the Rappolden valley desert from the right to the Bühler Aalenbach outflow , in the south another short unnamed one flows Dig in turn east to the Aalenbach.

The portion to the left of the creek lies on the Großaltdorf district marking and mainly includes the Breitfeld district , the one to the right of the course and the waterless upper catchment area west of the railway line up to the two elevations on the central district marking of Vellberg . Apart from the industrial area at the origin and the Großaltdorfer Aussiedlerhof Sonnenhof near the mouth, it is uninhabited and is mainly used for agriculture.

geology

The Breitfeldgraben rises, runs and flows into the Lettenkeuper ( Erfurt formation ). The hills of Almersberg (a little over 405  m above sea level ) and Äulesberg ( 432.8  m above sea level ), together with their slopes on this side, are located in the Gipskeuper ( grave field formation ), which border the upper catchment area to the west . On this side of the Almersberg slope there is a very small set of gypsum mining, on the other side of the Äulesberg there seems to be a large gypsum break with a high profile today (2020).

Nature and protected areas

The Bachgraben, which begins directly at the railway line, today shows a very straight course towards the east, while on a map from 1937 it still showed three noticeable corners in the course; At that time it was probably already flowing around an even smaller rectangle of land in a drawn trench. Today he is moving in a field hedge on the north side of a large hall building on the edge of the industrial area. After crossing under the L 1040 there are only very sporadic trees along the course, only again at the fencing around the Sonnenhof property on the left side of the course in brief, denser succession.

On this side of the slope under the saddle between Almersberg and Äulesberg is a small field hedge, on that of Almersberg a forest island. Only a small one is also on the slope of the Äulesberg, whose peak, which is heavily excavated from the other side, bears a loose forest. The rest of the catchment area is used for agriculture, with the exception of the industrial area between the railway line in the west and the state road in the east and a storage area on the north side of the brook.
