The Breithorn is a 3780 m high mountain in the Bernese Alps .
It lies between the Grosshorn and the Tschingelhorn . The glaciated weather gap lies in the connection to the Tschingelhorn . To the north, the Breithorn falls with a 1200 meter high rock and ice wall to the Lauterbrunnen valley , where it forms an imposing end. The border between the Swiss cantons of Bern and Valais runs over its summit .
The mountain was climbed for the first time on July 31, 1865 by the Bernese Alpine pioneer Edmund von Fellenberg . The mountain guides Johann Bischoff, Peter Egger, Peter Inäbnit and Peter Michel from Lauterbrunnen and Grindelwald were also there .
You can climb the west ridge from the weather gap (places III degree ).
