Brendan Emmet Irvine (* 17th May 1996 ) is an Irish boxer in the flyweight .

successes

He was Irish Champion (U22) in 2013 and Irish Youth Champion in 2014. In addition, he won the Pavlyukov Memorial youth tournament in Russia in February 2014. He defeated Elschan Abbasow from Azerbaijan, Dennis Weber from Germany and the two Cubans Frank Saldivar and Joahnys Argilagos .

In the adult (elite class) he was Irish champion in 2015 and won the Gee-Bee tournament in Finland in March 2015, defeating Russian Nikita Tomilow in the semifinals and Bulgarian Tinko Banabakow in the final . In June 2015 he won the silver medal at the European Games in Baku , Azerbaijan. After victories against Tinko Banabakow, Salman Əlizadə and Dmytro Samotajew , he only lost 2-1 in the final against Bator Sagalujew .

At the 2015 World Championships in Doha , he was eliminated in the quarter-finals against the Cuban Joahnys Argilagos . By defeating Daniel Asenow in April 2016, Irvine qualified for the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil.

At the games themselves he was eliminated in the first duel against Shahobiddin Zoirov . In 2017 he again won the Irish Championships and a bronze medal at the European Championships in Kharkiv . He was qualified for the 2017 World Championships in Hamburg , where he was eliminated in the round of 16.

At the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia , he won the silver medal after losing to Gaurav Solanki in the final .
