history

The place Brend was first mentioned in a document in 742, when the church St. Martin was assigned to the newly founded diocese of Würzburg . In the traditional writings, the parish church in Brendlorenzen and the round church on the Marienberg fortress are described as the oldest churches in the Würzburg diocese. The parish church was presumably consecrated in 706 by Saint Willibrord .

The construction of the Church of St. John the Baptist is certainly closely related to the establishment of the royal court of Charlemagne in Salt. The use as a baptistery was probably also the reason for the replacement of Saint Martin as church patron by Saint John the Baptist .

Brendlorenzen was already a settlement area long before it was first mentioned. During excavations in 2001, traces of a settlement from the more recent La Tène period were found in the new development area of Brendlorenzen (cellar-like pit houses, garbage pits, remains of six pottery kilns).

On January 1, 1972, the previously independent community of Lebenhan was incorporated. On May 1, 1978 Brendlorenzen was incorporated into the city of Bad Neustadt an der Saale together with Lebenhan .

education

A Catholic kindergarten and two municipal kindergartens are available for pre-school education for Brendlorenzen children. Brendlorenzen has its own elementary school that the children from the neighboring Lebenhan visit.

Association

The TSV Brendlorenzen is the largest sports club in the Rhön-Grabfeld district (at times up to 1400 members). Today it consists of eight departments: soccer, athletics, table tennis, cycling, volleyball, triathlon, basketball and badminton.

Above all, the cycling department that organizes the Rhön hilltop ride is known nationwide. This event offers numerous different bike routes (approx. 30 to 220 km) both for popular sport and for trained cyclists of all levels.

The home association Brendlorenzen is the second largest club in Brendlorenzen after the sports club with currently over 500 members.
