The Brexbach (historically: Brachysa ) is an almost 22 km long left tributary of the Saynbach in Rhineland-Palatinate .
course
The Brexbach arises from the union of Hinterster Bach and Vorderster Bach in the Grenzhauser Stadtwald east of Höhr-Grenzhausen . However, some see the Hintersten Bach only as a name for the upper reaches of the Brexbach.
From the confluence of the two source streams at some fish ponds, the Brexbach initially runs along the upper edge of Höhr-Grenzhausen. In the upper Brexbachtal there was once a mustard mill (burnt down in 1914; memorial stone) as well as paint mill, Niesmühle and Kühnsmühle (buildings no longer used as mills still exist).
The Brexbach then reaches Höhr-Grenzhausen's district Grenzau and flows through the village below Grenzau Castle . Grenzau station is the terminus of the Brexbachtalbahn , which was closed for passenger traffic but partially reactivated in 2009 as a tourist railway .
The 16 km long Brexbachschluchtweg (“Wäller Tour”, “Saynsteig”), a varied, sometimes demanding hiking trail along steep and densely wooded slopes runs parallel to the historic railway line. You then reach the scout camp Brexbachtal in a meadow; On three kilometers there are tent camp sites, some with shelters, and a camp chapel.
The lower course of the Brexbach leads past the former Sayn Abbey , flows through the Sayn district below Sayn Castle, directly along the old protective wall before it flows into the Saynbach in the park of Sayn Castle . This ends in the area of the Bendorfer port area in the Rhine.
