Brian Diemer

Brian Lee Diemer (born October 10, 1961 in Grand Rapids ) is a retired American obstacle runner .

Life

Diemer attended the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor and became the 1983 NCAA obstacle course champion. At the World Athletics Championships in Helsinki in the same year he reached the semi-finals. He achieved his most important sporting success at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. In 8.14.06 min he won the bronze medal behind the Kenyan Julius Korir (8: 11.30 min) and the French Joseph Mahmoud (8: 13.31 min).

At the World Athletics Championships in Rome in 1987 Diemer took fourth place. The following year he was the first American champion in the obstacle course. Further titles followed in 1989, 1990 and 1992. At the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, he missed the finals as seventh of his semi-final run. In contrast, he came in fifth place at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo in 1991 and seventh place at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona.

At the World Athletics Championships in 1993 in Stuttgart, Diemer was eliminated in the preliminary run. He won his last international medal in second place at the 1995 Pan American Games in Mar del Plata.

Brian Diemer is 1.76 m tall and weighed 64 kg during his playing days.
