Brian Glover
Brian Glover (born April 2, 1934 in Sheffield , England , † July 24, 1997 in London , England) was a British actor , wrestler , screenwriter and school teacher .
Life
Although born in Sheffield, Brian Glover grew up in Barnsley . His father was a wrestler and his mother ran a small grocery store. He attended the University of Sheffield and partially financed his studies with professional wrestling, where he first appeared under the name Erik Tanberg and later as Leon Arras . Glover became a teacher of French and English in Barnsley, but continued to work as a wrestler on the side. One of his fellow teachers was the writer Barry Hines , who gave him a comedic film role as a sadistic physical education teacher in the drama Kes (1969), which was based on a work by Hines.
This was the beginning of Glover's career as an actor, where he played mostly in prominent supporting roles. With his broad Yorkshire accent, his bald head and his rough appearance, Glover remained unmistakable as a character actor . Appearances in theaters , in television productions and in films such as O Lucky Man! (1973), The Old Curiosity Shop (1975), American Werewolf (1981) and Alien 3 (1992). In addition to his acting activities, he has written for numerous television productions and short films, as well as a regular column for a Yorkshire newspaper.
Glover was married twice and had two children. He died of a brain tumor on July 24, 1997 in a London hospital .
