Vita

From 1951 to 1955 Brigitte Schuller completed a degree in ceramics , which was predominantly handicraft-oriented, with the lecturer Anneliese Braunmüller and with Boris Kleint at the State School for Art and Crafts ( Saarbrücken ), a predecessor of the Saar School of Fine Arts . During this time she also took courses in basic teaching with Oskar Holweck . In 1955 she passed her journeyman's examination at the Saarbrücken Chamber of Crafts . From 1956 to 1957 she continued her studies at the Kunstgewerbeschule Basel , and at the same time she took lessons from the ceramic artist and art critic Mario Mascarin in Muttenz near Basel. From 1957 to 1958 she worked in the workshop of the ceramic artist Otto Hohlt in Katzbach am Inn. 1958 followed by a study visit to France , during which she also took part in drawing courses at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière ( Paris ).

In 1960 Schuller moved to Saarbrücken and built her own studio on Danziger Strasse, where she worked until 1974. In 1970 she went on a study trip to Japan , which also took her to Moscow , Irkutsk and Nakhodka . In 1973 she took part in an international ceramic symposium in Bechyně (CSSR). A year later, with her own participation, she organized a similar symposium in Mettlach, Saarland . In 1974 she returned to Katzbach / Inn and ran a joint studio with Görge Hohlt, with whom she was married, until 1984. In 1985 she later moved to her own studio in Rott am Inn , where she worked until 1987. In 1988 she moved back to Saarbrücken, where she was married to the brother of the sculptor Leo Kornbrust , Franz Kornbrust , where she had her own studio on the West Prussia ring. In 1994 and 1997 Schuller took part in an international porcelain symposium in the Polish town of Wałbrzych (German: Waldenburg).

plant

Brigitte Schuller says she seeks closeness to architecture very early on in her work. This is expressed in her numerous works that she created for buildings ( art in architecture ) and for public spaces . A fountain system can also be found in her oeuvre. Schuller mainly works with clay and the potter's wheel. Most of her pieces are turned on the disk and "... provided with relatively simple, multilayered glazes in predominantly dark tones". In her earlier works the artist pays attention to the usability of her vases, bowls and cup shapes. Figurative and representational representations are not Schuller's thing, she likes to design her objects abstractly. Amorphous designs are often found in their works . In later creative phases, her works become more filigree, their usability is no longer in the foreground.

Brigitte Schuller uses numerous other materials in her construction work. Stoneware, earthenware, and porcelain, but also acrylic or stainless steel can be found on their design palette. According to experts, their wall designs are among the trend-setting and formative elements in contemporary ceramics.
