Brilliant is a city in Marion County in the US state of Alabama . According to the 2010 census, Brilliant had 900 inhabitants. The total area of the place is 8.9 km².

Brilliant is located in northwest Alabama in the southern United States. It is approximately 38 kilometers east of the Mississippi border and 15 miles west of the 733 square kilometer William B. Bankhead National Forest .
Nearby locations include Winfield (2 miles south), Glen Allen (3 miles southeast), Guin (8 miles west), Lynn (10 miles east), and Beaverton (12 miles southwest). The next larger city with 212,000 inhabitants is about 95 kilometers southeast of Birmingham .
history
The city was founded and incorporated as Boston , based on Boston , Massachusetts . The discovery of large coal reserves led to the establishment of the Brilliant Coal Company in the late 19th century , and the city later became the most densely populated place in the county. As industry and population continued to decline, the post office was relocated in 1957 and the name changed to its current name. By the late 1950s, the company had shut down most of the mines, with only a few mines operating until the 1990s.

Interstate 22 runs through the south of the city , and Alabama State Route 129 runs through the city. South of the city there is a connection to US Highway 43 , north to US Highway 278 .

According to the 2000 census , Brilliant had 762 residents, spread across 343 households and 220 families. The population density was 85.5 inhabitants / km². 99.61% of the population were white. Children under the age of 18 lived in 27.7% of households. The median income per household was $ 18,224, with 26.5% of the population living below the poverty line .
By the 2010 census , the population rose to 900, according to an estimate it was 889 in 2013.
