Bristol is a village and a census-designated place in Ellis County , Texas in the United States . At the last census in 2010 Bristol had 668 inhabitants, in 2018 the population was given as 484.

Bristol is located on the southeastern edge of the Dallas-Fort-Worth-Metroplex at 660 Farm-to-Market-Road , about 40 kilometers southeast of Dallas and 28 kilometers east of Waxahachie . Surrounding towns and villages are India in the north, Combine in the northeast, Rosser in the east, Telico in the southeast, Crisp in the south, Garrett in the southwest, Palmer in the west and Trumbull and Ferris in the northwest.

history

The settlement was founded in the late 1840s by the settler Joshua W. Brock and founded by his two brothers and received a post office in 1854. The place was then called Brockville . In 1869 the post office was closed again. In the 1860s, a local family built a steam-powered grist mill , a sawmill and an ironing machine in the current location . In 1870 a school and a church were built in the village. On April 15, 1872, a post office was set up again, which was named Bristol. The name goes back to the former resident Steven Mills, who wanted to name the settlement after the British city of Bristol . By 1890, Bristol had grown to around 200 residents. At that point the place had half a dozen stores, an elementary school, a bank, and two churches.

In 1933, Bristol reached its highest level in the meantime with just under 300 inhabitants, after which the population continued to decline. The village school was inaugurated on September 16, 1940. In 1960 the place had less than 200 inhabitants and for 1972 there were 94 inhabitants. The number of inhabitants was not officially recorded at this time. In the 1980s, Bristol developed into a supply center for the surrounding farms. Since the 2010 census, Bristol and some surrounding farms have been considered a census-designated place .

In 2018, Bristol had 484 residents, according to the American Community Survey . There were 174 households and 128 families in the village. Of the population, 91.74 percent were white and 4.13 percent were African American and Native American, respectively. 62.4 percent of Bristol residents were male and 37.8 percent were female.

6.3 percent of households had children under the age of 18 living with them, and 54.6 percent of households had people over 60 years of age. In terms of age, the inhabitants of Venus were 4.1 percent minors, 4.1 percent between 18 and 24, 40.3 percent between 25 and 44, 38.3 percent between 45 and 64 and 13.2 percent of the population were 65 years of age old or older. The median age was 49.3 years. In 2018, the median salary in Bristol was $ 95,163 per household and $ 73,750 per family. 13.6 percent of the population lived below the poverty line .
