The Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex is a metropolitan area in the United States and the metropolitan complex of the cities of Dallas , Arlington, Texas, and Fort Worth . It is the 61st largest metropolitan area in the world and the seventh largest in the USA .

The region has a population of around 6,550,000 ( as of 2019 ) and can be divided into Dallas - Plano - Irving and Fort Worth - Arlington .

Counties

Beyond the metropolitan areas of the megacities, the Metroplex extends over 12 counties , with the cities of Carrollton , Denton , McKinney and Richardson also being included.
