In the middle of the 19th century, today's Pakistan became part of British India . Pakistanis served in the British Indian Army during the world wars. In World War II, about 830,000 Muslims were, many of them British Pakistanis. In the 1950s it was easy for people from the Commonwealth to move to the UK. So Pakistani came to the country and found work in the coal and steel industries. With the decline of the British coal and steel industries, many became unemployed.

British Pakistanis were identified as perpetrators in abuse scandal Rotherham , the abuse scandal Telford determined and still another the public moving abuse scandals. In the past, the British press often described the perpetrators as “ Asian men ” - a term that met with criticism. Some believed that in this way the true identity and ethnicity of the perpetrators should be consciously concealed in a misunderstood political correctness . Others complained that people from different races and cultures were being unjustifiably lumped together. The reasons why British Pakistanis were so disproportionately involved in these abuse scandals has been the subject of much discussion in the British public since the Rotherham events became known. British-Pakistani publicists pointed out that not only were "white" British girls abused, but that it was also a problem within the British-Pakistani community where a wall of silence and a culture of shaming victims would prevent it Problem would come up.

On May 5, 2016, Sadiq Khan , a Sunni Muslim and Labor Party politician , whose parents immigrated from Pakistan, was elected London's first Muslim mayor .
