The Broghol or Broghol Pass (also Broghil or Boroghil ) has a peak height of 3798 m .
It crosses the Hindu Kush and connects the Wakhan Corridor of Afghanistan in the north with the Chitral district in Pakistan in the south. Wakhi and Kyrgyz people live around the area of the pass . Since this pass overcomes a snowy altitude, it is closed about three months of the year due to snow and temperatures around -40 ° C and only accessible by vehicles for nine months.
The Chitral district can only be reached via four mountain passes or through the Kunar Valley from Afghanistan. The other passes are the Dorah Pass which leads into the Wakhan Corridor to Afghanistan, the Lowari Pass and the Shandur Pass which leads to Gilgit in Pakistan. The 8.6 km long Lowari tunnel should be completed in spring 2010 , which will then create a winter-safe connection. However, completion will be delayed until at least March 2017.
It is believed that Marco Polo crossed the Broghol Pass on his journey to China . The pass plays a role in the comedy Spies Like Us (German: "Spione wie wir"), where Dan Aykroyd overcomes it on a yak . He also comes in the books The Gilgit Game (German: The game of Gilgit) by John Keay from 1985 and in The Kafirs of the Hindukush (German: Die Kafirs des Hindukusch) by Sir George Scott Robertson (1852-1916) from 1896.
