The 4300  m high Dorah or Dorah Pass connects the Zibak district with Chitral in Pakistan and overcomes the Hindu Kush .

This pass was of great importance during the Soviet invasion, as the Soviet troops failed to control and stop the arms transport and the movements of the mujahideen . The pass was also an escape route to Chitral.

The Dorah Pass has been of great economic importance for the region over the past 30 years, as precious stones such as emeralds and lapis lazuli as well as food and cattle could be transported over it.

The Chitral district can only be reached via four mountain passes or from Afghanistan via the Kunar Valley . The other passes are Lowari Pass , Broghol Pass, and Shandur Pass , which leads to Gilgit in Pakistan. Originally, the 8.6-kilometer-long Lowari tunnel , which will create a winter-safe connection, was supposed to be completed in spring 2010 . The date has been postponed to at least March 2017.
