Bruce Mouat (born August 27, 1994 in Edinburgh ) is a Scottish curler . He currently plays in the position of Skip.
Career
Mouat began his international career at the Mixed Doubles World Cup in 2013 , where he finished seventh with Gina Aitken. In the following year, the two finished ninth.
In 2015 he played as the skip of the Scottish junior national team at the Junior World Championship and won the bronze medal. At the Junior World Championship in 2016 , he led the Scottish team again as Skip and won the gold medal after beating the USA in the final. In the same year he finished fourth at the Mixed Doubles World Championship - again together with Gina Aitken . An eleventh place followed in 2017 .
In 2017 he won the gold medal as the skip of the Scottish team at the Winter Universiade . After winning the Scottish Curling Championship in 2018, he and his team defeated Kyle Smith's team in two of three games in the Scottish World Championship Playoff and thus qualified for the 2018 World Championship in Las Vegas . There his team (third: Grant Hardie , second: Bobby Lammie , lead: Hammy McMillan Jr. ) finished second after eleven wins and one defeat after the Round Robin . In the semifinals, the Scots met Brad Gushue's Canadian team , who had to admit defeat 5: 9. In the game for third place they defeated South Korea with Skip Kim Chang-min and won the bronze medal.
Because of his achievements, Mouat and his teammates were nominated by the Scottish Federation for the 2018 European Championship in Tallinn . He came after a second place in the round robin in the playoffs and beat the Italian team to Joël Retornaz in the semifinals . In the final he met defending champions Sweden with Skip Niklas Edin . With his team he was able to win the game 9: 5.
Mouat plays with his team on the World Curling Tour . In 2017, in addition to the Stu Sells Oakville Tankard and the Biosteel Oakville Fall Classic, he won his first Grand Slam tournament with the Boost National. At the age of 23, he was the youngest Skip to win a Grand Slam tournament. At the same time, it was the first victory of a Scottish men's team in this highly endowed tournament series.
Private life
Mouat studied International Festival and Event Management with Entrepreneurship at Edinburgh Napier University and graduated with a bachelor's degree in 2018.
