Kyle Smith (born July 9, 1992 in Perth ) is a Scottish curler . He currently plays third on Skip Glen Muirhead's team .

Career

Smith began his international career at the 2012 Junior World Championships , where he won the bronze medal as the skip of the Scottish team. At the Junior World Championship in 2013 , he and his team were world champions. In his last participation in 2014 , he again achieved a podium place with a silver medal.

At the 2013 Winter Universiade , he won the silver medal as the skip of the Scottish Agricultural College, Edinburgh team. He won another medal in 2015 when he skipped the team at Scotland's Rural College, Aberdeen, by finishing third.

At the European Championships 2017 in St. Gallen , Smith was able to move into the final against the Swedish team of Niklas Edin as Skip after a semi-final victory against Switzerland (Skip: Peter de Cruz ) , but lost there 10: 5 because the Swedes succeeded to steal four stones in the end.

Smith and his teammates (Third: Thomas Muirhead , Second: Kyle Waddell , Lead: Cameron Smith , Alternate: Glen Muirhead ) represented Great Britain at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games . After five wins and four defeats in the Round Robin , his team was tied for fourth place with Switzerland and had to play a tie-breaker against Peter de Cruz's team to make it into the final round . The British lost 5: 9 to the Swiss and thus finished the Olympic tournament in fifth place.

His team was changed for the 2018/19 season. Smith has since played on the position of third, while the previous alternate Glen Muirhead has taken over the position of the skips; Second is Thomas Muirhead and lead Cameron Smith.

Smith also plays with his team on the World Curling Tour and has won several competitions.
