Brunfelsia densifolia is a species from the Brunfelsia section of the genus Brunfelsia . The plants are endemic to Puerto Rico .

description

Brunfelsia densifolia is a 6 to 10 m high tree , the trunk of which can reach a diameter of 13 cm. The plants are completely hairless. The branches are rod-shaped, slender and densely covered with leaves . These are leathery, linear-elongated to linear-inversely lanceolate or linear-shaped. They are 5 to 10 cm long and 5 to 10 mm wide, towards the front they are pointed or blunt, the base is long and pointed. The upper side of the leaves is glossy, the numerous leaf veins are almost parallel. The leaf stalks are 4 to 9 mm long.

The flowers are single and terminal. The flower stalk becomes up to 1 cm long. The calyx is narrow, bell-shaped and 6 to 7 mm long. It is covered with short, rounded calyx tips with ciliate tips. The crown is initially white, but later turns yellow. The very slender corolla tube has a length of 10 to 15 cm. The coronet is covered with short, rounded or blunt corolla lobes. Of the four stamens , one pair has greatly reduced anthers , which are described as either sterile or as producing only small amounts of pollen . All four anthers reach the opening of the corolla tube. The stamens are each attached to the same height as the corolla tube. The scar extends beyond the opening of the corolla tube.

The fruit has a diameter of 1.5 to 2.5 cm, it is egg-shaped to spherical. At first it is green, turns yellow when ripe and pops up late. The seeds are elliptical, brown in color and about 4 mm long.
