Bruno Knittel

Bruno Knittel (born July 16, 1918 in Freiburg im Breisgau ; † March 1977 ) was a German sculptor .

Life

Bruno Knittel came from a well-known Freiburg family of sculptors. His father Hugo Knittel was also a sculptor, as was his father Gustav Adolf Knittel and his grandfather Josef Alois Knittel . Bruno's older brother Wolfgang became a painter and graphic artist. Bruno Knittel first learned from his father. During the Second World War he was taken prisoner of war , from which he returned in 1946. Until 1949 he studied with Otto Baum at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart and traveled to Paris, Rome and Florence. He had an exhibition in Baden-Baden and in 1950 he settled in Freiburg as a freelance sculptor.

He died in March 1977. His son Markus (born October 10, 1965) learned his father's craft with Michael Storr in Freiburg, then attended the master's school and opened a studio in Opfingen in 1998 .
