Bruno Schneider (* 1957 in Lausanne ) is a Swiss horn player .

education and study

Schneider grew up in La Chaux-de-Fonds . At the local conservatory he received horn lessons from Robert Faller from the age of nine , which he completed in 1977 with a diploma (with a minor in singing). He then completed postgraduate studies with Michael Höltzel at the Detmold University of Music , where he passed the high school diploma in 1980 and the concert exam with distinction in 1981. In 1974 and 1975 Bruno Schneider was a member of the World Youth Orchestra .

Career history

In 1979 he was employed as solo horn player in the Zurich Opera Orchestra , in 1981 in the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and in 1986 in the Lucerne Festival Orchestra. Until 1993 he was principal horn of the Orchester de la Suisse Romande in Geneva. Since it was founded in 2003, Bruno Schneider has been solo horn in the Lucerne Festival Orchestra under Claudio Abbado . In addition to his orchestral work, he made extensive chamber music appearances.

Bruno Schneider appears worldwide as a horn soloist with, among others, Sabine Meyer , Gidon Kremer , Vadim Repin and Jeremy Menuhin . In addition, there are teaching activities for the virtuosity classes at the conservatories in Geneva and Lausanne. From 1991 he was professor at the University of Music in Karlsruhe , since 1997 he has been professor for horn in Freiburg im Breisgau . Konstantin Timokhine is a student of his .
