Bruno Staffelbach

Bruno Staffelbach (born  July 13, 1957 in Lucerne ) is a Swiss economist and has been the rector of the University of Lucerne since 2016 . In addition to his academic career, he was a brigadier in the Swiss Army and has been a member of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) since 2010 . Bruno Staffelbach is married to Claire Rüegg Staffelbach.

He was also a member of the ethics committee and the continuing education committee of the University of Zurich for several years.

In 2016 he was appointed full professor of business administration at the Faculty of Economics at the University of Lucerne, which was founded in the same year, and was elected Rector of the University of Lucerne. In 2016, he founded the Center for Human Resource Management (CEHRM) at the University of Lucerne.

Research priorities

Bruno Staffelbach's research focuses on the areas of human resource management and management ethics from an economic, psychological and practical point of view. The research projects extend in particular to questions about careers and the labor market, leadership and motivation, and personnel and corporate policy. In addition, he published on marketing and on military-economic and economic-historical issues.

Military engagement

Bruno Staffelbach completed a military career parallel to his studies. Originally a gunner in the artillery , he was trained as an artillery officer and, after four years, was appointed commander of a self-propelled howitzer battery. After training as a general staff officer , he held various functions in succession: as a captain in the general staff, general staff officer, operations in the staff of a field division, as a major in the general staff, commander of a self-propelled howitzer department, as lieutenant colonel in the general staff, sub-chief of logistics in the staff of a field division, and as a colonel in the general staff, commander of one Artillery Regiment . Member of the Academy of Management , the American Psychological Association , the American Economic Association , the Association for Social Policy and the Association of University Professors in Business Administration .

Bruno Staffelbach worked intensively as an expert, consultant, lecturer and trainer for companies and authorities in Germany and abroad and was a member of the board of directors of two companies listed on the stock exchange. In 2010 he was co-opted as a member of the International Committee of the Red Cross and elected to its board in 2011.
