Bruno Staffelbach

Bruno Staffelbach (born  July 13, 1957 in Lucerne ) is a Swiss economist and has been the rector of the University of Lucerne since 2016 . In addition to his academic career, he was a brigadier in the Swiss Army and has been a member of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) since 2010 . Bruno Staffelbach is married to Claire Rüegg Staffelbach.

Bruno Staffelbach studied economics at the University of Zurich , where he three years later with an excellent by the Ernst Jost Foundation dissertation in business administration doctorate and 1991 with a font to management ethics habilitation was. Professional Activities

In addition, he was a lecturer in marketing and head of the post-graduate course in business management at what is now the Lucerne School of Economics and lecturer in marketing at the University of Friborg . In 1991 he was offered a professorship for organization and personnel at the University of Friborg.

From 1992 to 2016 he was full professor for business administration at the University of Zurich and held the chair for human resource management. He exercised various additional functions. From 1992 to 2001 he was Director of Management Training and from 2001 to 2005 and from 2015 President of the Executive MBA Program at the University of Zurich, and in 2003/2004 he was Director of the Institute for Business Research and in 2009/2010 Director of the Institute for Strategy and Business economics. He was also a member of the ethics committee and the continuing education committee of the University of Zurich for several years.

In 2016 he was appointed full professor of business administration at the Faculty of Economics at the University of Lucerne, which was founded in the same year, and was elected Rector of the University of Lucerne. In 2016, he founded the Center for Human Resource Management (CEHRM) at the University of Lucerne.

Research priorities

Bruno Staffelbach's research focuses on the areas of human resource management and management ethics from an economic, psychological and practical point of view. The research projects extend in particular to questions about careers and the labor market, leadership and motivation, and personnel and corporate policy. In addition, he published on marketing and on military-economic and economic-historical issues.

Military engagement

Bruno Staffelbach completed a military career parallel to his studies. Originally a gunner in the artillery , he was trained as an artillery officer and, after four years, was appointed commander of a self-propelled howitzer battery. After training as a general staff officer , he held various functions in succession: as a captain in the general staff, general staff officer, operations in the staff of a field division, as a major in the general staff, commander of a self-propelled howitzer department, as lieutenant colonel in the general staff, sub-chief of logistics in the staff of a field division, and as a colonel in the general staff, commander of one Artillery Regiment . In 2003 the Federal Council appointed him commander of an infantry brigade and promoted him to brigadier . From 2004 to 2008 he commanded Infantry Brigade 4 of the Swiss Army. In 2008 he was also the commander of the 1st Multinational Brigade in VIKING 08, a framework staff exercise for a peacekeeping operation based on a UN mandate and under NATO command.

Bruno Staffelbach has various editorial activities, e.g. B. is co-editor of the Swiss Human Relations Barometer and a member of the editorial board of the Zeitschrift für Personalforschung and the Journal of Organizational Effectiveness: People and Performance. He is also a reviewer for various journals and institutions. From 1983 to 1996 he was editor of the Swiss magazine for business practice and research "The Company".

He is also a member of various advisory boards and scientific associations. a. the European Institute for Advanced Studies in Management (EIASM), the Institute for Leadership and Personnel Management at the University of St. Gallen and the Zurich Society for Personnel Management. He is a partner and represents Switzerland in the Cranfield Network on Comparative Human Resource Management (CRANET) and he is partner for HR governance of the International Center for Corporate Governance St. Gallen. Bruno Staffelbach is u. a. Member of the Academy of Management , the American Psychological Association , the American Economic Association , the Association for Social Policy and the Association of University Professors in Business Administration .

Bruno Staffelbach worked intensively as an expert, consultant, lecturer and trainer for companies and authorities in Germany and abroad and was a member of the board of directors of two companies listed on the stock exchange. In 2010 he was co-opted as a member of the International Committee of the Red Cross and elected to its board in 2011.
