Bruno Max Victor Ferdinand von Uthmann (born April 17, 1891 in Berlin , † June 8, 1978 in Bergedorf ) was a German lieutenant general and military attaché in Stockholm .

Life

family

Bruno was a member of the Silesian noble family von Uthmann . His parents were the future Prussian Lieutenant General Paul von Uthmann (1857-1918) and his wife Brunhilde, née von Meerheimb (1869-1901).

Career

Uthmann began training as a cadet in March 1911 and then joined the Kaiser Alexander Guard Grenadier Regiment No. 1 of the Prussian Army as an ensign . With the regiment he took part in the First World War and was most recently active in the general staff of the 121st Division . His achievements were recognized by the award of both classes of the Iron Cross and the Bavarian Order of Military Merit IV class.

After taking over the Reichswehr , he became a captain in the General Staff of the 3rd Division and Adjutant Seeckts . From his promotion to colonel on November 1, 1935, he was employed by the Army General Staff in the Army High Command (OKH) in Berlin .

In 1937 or in September 1938 he was appointed military attaché at the German Embassy in Stockholm by the OKH . Initially, until the German occupation of Denmark and Norway in April 1940, he was also responsible for the legations in Oslo and Copenhagen . Subordinate to him was Hans Wagner (code name: Dr. Neumann ).

Uthmann is buried in the Wiesbaden North Cemetery .
