Brunsnæs ( German  Brunsnis, also Brunsnäs and Brunsnaes ) is a Danish village that belongs to the Sønderborg municipality on the Flensburg Fjord . It belongs to Broager Sogn .

location

Brunsnæs is located on a small peninsula that is part of the larger Broacker peninsula . The village of Brunsnæs is south of the village of Iller and the village of Broager . Skelde is three kilometers east of Brunsnæs .

background

The background of the place naming is unclear. In Low German , the word “bru (u) n” means “brown”. The word "Nis" occurs several times in place names in the area, including the places Holnis and Habernis , where it also means nose , land nose or headland .

In connection with the Glücksburg Rudekloster , the ferry connection between Brunsnæs and Holnis was first mentioned around 1209, and it should have existed for centuries. "Brunsnis" was also marked by name on a map by cartographer Franz Geerz from 1858. In the 1940s the steamship connection was discontinued. At the village of Brunsnæs you can still find the old ferry jug with the old ferry dock. Since 2001, the establishment of a replacement pedestrian and bicycle ferry connection was discussed. The Gendarmstien hiking trail now runs alongside Brunsnæs. In 2019, a Danish bicycle ferry finally started operating between Langballigau and Egernsund , with a stopover in Brunsnæs.

Say about the depth and his ferryman Nis

The ferryman Nis was once in the service of the devil . The two took a ship across the fjord. The devil gave him harsh orders to operate the ship. As they headed for the Landnose at Broaker, the Nis growled sullenly. The devil called out to him: "Brumms' Nis?" The grumbling Nis, who apparently only heard the question indistinctly, said nothing and continued to obey the orders. The small peninsula was then given the name "Brunsnis".
