The Bučina (German Buchkoppe ) is a largely forested mountain in the western part of the Duppau Mountains in the Czech Republic . It is located in the municipality of Doupovské Hradiště in the Okres Karlovy Vary . There is a stone observation tower on its summit.

geography

The Bučina drops steeply to the west and north to the valley of the Eger and its tributary Lomnice . To the northwest rises on the opposite side of the valley of the Studený vrch (569 m nm). Towards the south-east there is a plateau up to Na Klobouku (604 m nm).

Surrounding towns are Kyselka in the north and northwest with the districts Kyselka and Nová Kyselka , Dolní Lomnice in the northeast, Svatobor in the southeast and Dubina in the southwest.

From the Otto spring in Kyselka, a marked ascent of one and a half kilometers leads past the spa theater to the summit. A hiking trail on the slope of the Egertal valley to Dubina branches off from here and is part of the Andělská Hora –Kyselka nature trail .

history

On the northern slopes of the Buchkoppe , extensive promenades were laid out through the beech forest in the second half of the 19th century. Pavilions, resting places and viewpoints for the bathers of the Sauerbrunn spa were created along the paths .

Around 1880 Heinrich Mattoni had a stone lookout tower built on the Buchkoppe above the health resort .

When the Hradiště military training area was built, the mountain became inaccessible in the 1950s. After the observation mountain, located in the outskirts of the military area, was opened to the public again in the 1990s, it was rarely visited by tourists, as the ascent was difficult because of fallen trees and the overgrown path; in addition, trees prevented a view. In 2003 the municipality of Kyselka had the dilapidated and overgrown tower repaired and the viewing platform roofed over, the view reopened and the ascent restored. Since the military training area was reduced in size in 2015, the mountain has belonged to the Doupovské Hradiště municipality.

Observation tower

The round tower is located northwest below the summit and has a height of 13 meters. 62 steps lead to the roofed viewing platform at a height of 10 m. The base of the tower is approx. 220 m above the water level of the Eger.

The view extends over the Egertal with the places Kyselka and Karlsbad with the lookout towers Doubská hora and Diana to the Klínovec in the Ore Mountains . The trees prevent a view to the south and east.
