Bube Dame König is a German folk group founded in 2013 that is still in existence today. The band mixes German-language folk songs with traditional Irish and Swedish music as well as their own songs, some of which are based on local legends from the group's hometown, Halle (Saale) . The group itself describes its style as new folk music, based on the genre of new folk music .

history

The band was founded in 2013 in Halle (Saale) and performed their first concert at the Poeton Festival in Nordhausen that same year. Further concerts and festival appearances followed, as well as the production of the debut CD Traumländlein in 2014 . The debut was co-financed by a crowdfunding project in which the donors supported the production of individual tracks as so-called “song sponsors”. Numerous magazines and webzines ( Folker , Sing Out ! , Miroque , Folk World, Musicrewiews.de) gave the CD favorable reviews. Larger radio stations (e.g. Hessischer Rundfunk, Deutschlandradio Kultur) also included the tracks in their playlists.

In May 2015. Traumländlein with the Prize of the German Record Critics' Award (2/15 category Folk & Singer / Songwriter leaderboard).

In autumn 2016, the band followed up with the Christmas album Winterländlein , which was presented on MDR Kultur, among others.

In 2017, after the success of their YouTube video No beautiful country , the band started their own YouTube channel under the name Saalesessions with new live recordings of popular folk songs every month.

In October 2017, the band started the recordings for the third CD Nachtländlein in Leipzig Echolux studio - again funded by a crowdfunding project on a dedicated donation page, the band prior images and excerpts published the pre-production when a certain donation has been reached. Nachtländlein was released by CPL-Music at the end of September 2019 and, unlike the first two records, also gained more international attention with reviews in Belgian, Swedish and British music magazines and airplays in the USA, Scotland and Latvia. In Germany the album was presented on Hessischer Rundfunk, MDR Kultur and Deutschlandfunk Kultur each dedicated a separate contribution to the record.

At the end of 2019, the band was nominated as one of three finalists for the German Folk Music Award 2020 and was chosen by the jury as the winner in February 2020. The celebrity magazine Gala then presented the band in detail in its online edition. Shortly afterwards, the TV premiere followed in an article in MDR magazine at 4 .
