The Buchkogel is 442  m above sea level. A. high elevation in the Leithagebirge . It is located north of the Burgenland capital Eisenstadt and south of the municipality of Stotzing , near the border with Lower Austria . From 1958 to 1968 there was a wooden observation tower at the summit , which, however, was destroyed by weathering . In the same year, the responsible authorities built a second control room, which was also made of wood. It also weathered and was blown up in 1984. It was not until 1993 that a third control room made of galvanized steel was built and still exists today.

Climbs

The ascent to the highest point of the Buchkogel is possible on a number of marked trails.

  • From the pilgrimage site of Loretto north of the Leithagebirge, two marked climbs lead to the Buchkogel: one over the Trinity Chapel , the second a little further east past the Sulzberg . Walking time about 2 hours each.
  • From Eisenstadt , the capital of Burgenland , the Buchkogel can be reached on several marked trails. The shortest route over the Buchgrabenweg requires around 1¾ hours of walking. It takes about 2½ hours via the Gloriettewarte and the Schönen Jäger .
