Localization of Burgenland in Austria

The Buchkogelwarte is located on the 442 m high Buchkogel in the Leithagebirge between Stotzing and Eisenstadt in Burgenland . The 12 meter high lookout tower offers a wide view from the Schneeberg over the Vienna Basin , the Wiener Neustädter Pforte and Lake Neusiedl to the Little Carpathians in Slovakia .

In 1958, the Eisenstadt section of the Austrian Tourist Club built a wooden observation tower on the Buchkogel, which, however, had to be demolished 10 years later due to its dilapidation. Instead, a new control room was built on concrete foundations and opened on November 17, 1968. In April 1985, however, this wooden structure had to be demolished due to its dilapidation.

Construction work on the third observation tower began in autumn 1992. In order to ensure a longer service life for the structure, this time it was decided to use a steel structure consisting of five floors with a height of 2.40 m each. Around 1,400 screws hold the eight-ton tower together. The grand opening took place on May 16, 1993.
