Dorota Budna (born September 4, 1969 ) is a Polish costume designer who lives and works in Berlin .

life and career

Dorota Budna grew up in Poland at the time of communism and, as a little girl, created her first own costume designs in order to make the choice of clothes, which she found dreary, mainly made of brown tones, a little more individual. To do this, she dyed sheets and sewed them into clothes, painted sports shoes or made jewelry from leftovers. She later studied art in Opole , switched to the fashion design course at the renowned Lette-Verein in Berlin at the end of the 1990s and completed her training in costume design at the ifs International Film School in Cologne .

Her career as a costume designer began with an assistant to Maria Lucas and she took over the costume management for the musical Beauty and the Beast . This was followed by the costume design for the revue Fifty Fifty , an internship with the three-time Oscar nominee Anna B. Sheppard during the production of Oliver Twist and an assistant to Oscar winner Ann Roth during the production The Readers . After the birth of her two children, she was increasingly taking on assignments independently.
